I share your frustration even though it makes sense, since there are way more simplified readers in the world than traditional readers. I don't know if this will help you, but there are browser extensions you can get that will flip webpages between simplified and traditional characters, if you're using mostly Internet resources.

Most people I know can ... sort of read both, but yeah, it's way too much work to learn both systems. Maybe someday I'll have to learn simplified, but I'll put that off as long as possible...
